Sasha: When I first got the sides (audition pages and breakdown of character) for Virginia, I was actually thinking about passing. The character is not something I'd normally do. Then I picked up the script and read it straight through. I was sobbing by the end. It is one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever read. Thinking now about reading the script a year ago, I still have the same waves of emotion rolling through me. I understood Virginia in the context of the script. And even if I didn't I still would have done anything to be a part of this film. Matt (Matt Reeves, the director of the film) was at my callback. He is so clear in his vision all he has to do is look at you and you understand the mood of each scene.
SB-
Sasha: Becoming Virginia was quite easy. I drew upon the part of me that is similar to her. That part of me isn't something I'm proud of but it's definitely there. When my character changes it took hours of prep each day in the makeup chair. I don't want to say too much about that, I want to keep it a surprise.
SB-
Sasha: That she's lonely and stuck and she knows something is going on around her but is too self absorbed with her own problems to be involved in stopping it.
SB-
Sasha: Yes. Working with our director Matt reeves and our DP, Greig Fraser was an actors dream come true. The film looks like a moving oil painting. Every moment is so real and truthful it could almost be a documentary. When you work with people who respect reality like this... you feel totally safe as an actor. It's hard to describe... I can do it by saying what it isn't..... it isn't selling out.
SB-
Sasha: Yes it's incredible. "let me in" is closer to the story of the book. This is an adaption of the book, not a remake of the movie.
SB-
Sasha: I liked working with really talented people. The set designers, makeup, costume design, and the actors, everybody is the best at what they do. To be involved with a group of people who are at the top of their fields is really inspiring.
SB-
Sasha: Yes!!!! I saw some of it last week when I was doing some adr (sound) for the film. It looks incredible. I can't wait to see the film.
SB-
Sasha:No, I self edit too much, I don't like to watch because it makes me self aware.
SB-
Sasha: I love the understanding and compassion that comes with studying each character. I love being different people, I love thinking about justifications for why each character is who they are and coming up with a biography.
SB-
Sasha: I would love to write the script of "The heart is a lonely hunter". There is no part for me in it though. Maybe Biffs wife.
SB-
Sasha: There are too many... Each great film I see morphs my views. I saw "Un Prophet" a few months ago. It was the best film I've seen in years.
SB-
Sasha: I love Goya and Degas and Cezanne. I love the "Frick" museum in New York. Henry Clay Frick collected based on what he loved to look at. He would often sit in front of his own paintings for hours. I collect many young artists. It's a mini art collection of things I love to look at.
SB-
Sasha: I love Motown, Fleetwood Mac, Beck, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails,
Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Daniel Houlbrook, David Bowie, Queen, and Radiohead. I love
music that tells a story and makes me feel something. I love many different types
of music. I make soundtracks for books I read. I make mixes for my friends all the
time. I've always wanted to start a daily mix cd journal... maybe I'll start today
:-
SB-
Sasha: I have a cd of love songs from Daniel Houlbrook and a book of the lyrics.
His voice is so beautiful and the songs always make me cry. I have a few boxes of
letters that are very important to me. One box is from my grandmother, who wrote
me a letter everyday before she passed away in 1986. They were given to me this year
by my aunt. They are very beautiful and sad. Another box is letters back and forth
with a young love over the span of two years. He passed away last year. I re-
SB-
Sasha: I am obsessed with grapefruit juice mixed with sparkling water. I don't drink
alcohol, so I fall in love with different mixed fruit drinks or obscure sodas. it
keeps me busy at bars ;-
SB-
Sasha: The view at night from the Hollywood hills, The beach, and skid row.
SB-
Sasha: one means "loyalty and integrity" the other means "to be love". The love one made a few monks blush at the last temple I visited in Kyoto.
SB-
Sasha: Verena, I would love to thank YOU for your support. I've always been a private person, but you have been such a wonderful fan and so supportive, you make me feel better about opening up a bit. I love the site you built and I am flattered and grateful. Thank you.
